„I think of this album as something like a “story so far..”, something of a compilation of the best of my first three albums. Which is pretty much what the live set was when we were touring ‘Mushroom Cloud’, except that the set was weighted a bit more heavily towards the latest album.
While touring the first two albums, the band members would change regularly, with myself often being the only common denominator from one gig or tour to the next – I also played a lot of instruments on the recordings, just by default, which are much better utilised in other people’s hands. The band over the last couple of years has become much more settled, allowing them to develop and embellish the arrangements that had been on the earlier recordings. I think the live performances now bring together all of these disparate and sometimes paradoxical songs and recordings into something more cohesive. They somehow feel like they belong together now.
These recordings were from various concerts on our final tour of the ‘Mushroom Cloud’ release cycle, taken from the shows in Berlin, Utrecht, Kusel and Frankfurt in February/March 2024.
I think of this live album as drawing a line under the first chapter before we move on to something new.
The new album (to be released in 2026) goes in a slightly different direction, and might end up re-shaping our live set to some degree, so I think it’s quite a good time to gather these songs and performances together, as a document of where the band was at this moment in time.“
