MAZARE & EVILLE Tear Down the Boundaries. Between Breakbeats, Rage and Total Escalation

With “King For A Day”, Mazare and EVILLE deliver a track that deliberately pushes against expectations and gains attention precisely because of it. Somewhere between metalcore, electronic aggression and social tension, the song creates a sound that feels raw while remaining incredibly precise in its production. We spoke with Mazare about the new single, creative risks, genre boundaries and what comes next.

“King For A Day” sounds like a controlled explosion of metal, breakbeats and electronic chaos. At what point did you realize that this aggressive hybrid sound was the right direction for the track?

That specific blend was exactly what I was looking for from the start, but balancing all those elements while keeping the track understandable and ”replay-able” was the real challenge. It took almost a year of rewrites, additional production and way too many listens, ahah! 

Emotionally, the song feels much darker and more direct than many traditional EDM releases. Was it important from the beginning to make social tension and personal uncertainty part of the sound?

I’ve always been a bit scared to bring politics into my music, since I have a very diverse audience with, I guess, a wide variety of opinions on what’s going on right now in the world, and this community is supposed to be a safe space for everyone. I don’t want people going at each other in the comments and stuff like that, that’s not the point. However, things are getting a bit too messed up out there, and I believe artists have the responsibility to speak up if and when they can. So I did, and tried to inject that anger and uncertainty in the song. 

Mazare, this time you also stepped in with your own rap section. How challenging was it to move from being “just” the producer to becoming a direct part of the story yourself?

That’s a great question! It was quite the challenge, especially since my first language is Italian and I’m rapping in English, but it’s something I wanted to do for a while and, given the theme and message, I felt that this song was the right one. It was also very fun, and I gained a huge amount of respect for the people who do it flawlessly! 

EVILLE bring a massive live energy to the track. How did this collaboration come together, and why did you feel they were the perfect fit for “King For A Day”?

I am always on the lookout for cool artists and bands, firstly as a fan of music in general, and then as a “talent scout” for future releases. When I stumbled upon Eville I was instantly blown away by the raw energy, the smart songwriting and the cute aesthetic in contrast with the brutal sound. They were my first choice for the song and they absolutely killed it. Couldn’t be happier! 

The track constantly shifts between control and total escalation. With so many stylistic influences involved, how difficult is it to keep a strong thread running through the songwriting?

It’s actually been quite effortless! Being an avid listener of a lot of different styles of music, with time my songwriting naturally switched from the somewhat formulaic EDM structure to something a bit more articulated, typical of modern pop and metal. I just took those structures and tried to adapt them to something a bit more electronic. 

Your music combines metalcore, electronic music, breakbeats and modern pop elements. Do you think genre boundaries have become completely irrelevant today?

I wouldn’t use the word “irrelevant”, but the lines are definitely blurred, and I think it’s a great thing! Audiences are much more open to bands and artists experimenting a bit, and this gives us much more freedom to play around. Bands like Bring Me The Horizon and Sleep token showed the world that you can be “pop” without losing your grit. 

The official video strongly leans into VHS aesthetics and dark visual imagery. How important has the visual side become for your releases nowadays?

I’ve started to dabble into graphic design and filmmaking a few years ago. I spend way too much time going trough movie art books and behind the scenes trying to absorb as much knowledge as I can about this world. And I also work with an incredibly creative team, we all share the same passion for music and arts, so the desire to focus a bit more on the visual side of things has just been a natural progression of the project for us. Now we even started building props and it’s a LOT of fun! 

Mazare is often praised for having such a versatile sound. Are there still musical boundaries you consciously refuse to cross?

Absolutely not. You could find me in a latin music playlist in a few years, who knows ahah!

Compared to your earlier releases, how do you feel your music is evolving right now? Do you feel more creative and fearless than a few years ago?

I think everyone’s musical taste evolves as we grow up. For musicians and producers, incorporating some of that new taste in their music becomes almost automatic as they go on with their life and career. You leave the fear of trying out new things behind, and you care a bit less about the haters, and your sound evolves as a result. And suddenly a lot of doors open in front of you, and you just need to pick the ones that feel right. I believe that’s what happened to me at least! 

Can fans expect more collaborations, festival appearances or even touring plans following “King For A Day”?

Absolutely yes! I’ve got a pretty packed few months ahead, so make sure to stick around! Thanks so much for this fantastic interview, I had a lot of fun!

Mit „King For A Day“ liefern Mazare und EVILLE einen Song ab, der bewusst mit Erwartungen bricht und genau deshalb Aufmerksamkeit erzeugt. Irgendwo zwischen Metalcore, elektronischer Aggression und gesellschaftlicher Anspannung entsteht ein Sound, der roh wirkt und zugleich bis ins Detail präzise produziert ist. Wir haben mit Mazare über die neue Single, kreative Risiken, Genregrenzen und die nächsten Schritte gesprochen.

„King For A Day“ klingt wie eine kontrollierte Explosion aus Metal, Breakbeats und elektronischem Chaos. Wann war euch klar, dass genau dieser aggressive Hybrid-Sound der richtige Weg für den Song ist?

Mazare: „Genau diese Mischung hatte ich von Anfang an im Kopf. Die eigentliche Herausforderung bestand darin, all diese Elemente so auszubalancieren, dass der Song trotz seiner Intensität verständlich bleibt und man ihn immer wieder hören möchte. Das hat fast ein Jahr gedauert. Es gab unzählige Überarbeitungen, zusätzliche Produktionen und definitiv viel zu viele Durchläufe. Haha.“

Emotional wirkt der Song deutlich düsterer und direkter als viele klassische EDM-Veröffentlichungen. War euch von Anfang an wichtig, gesellschaftliche Spannungen und persönliche Unsicherheit hörbar zu machen?

Mazare: „Ich hatte immer etwas Respekt davor, politische Themen in meine Musik einfließen zu lassen. Unsere Community ist sehr vielfältig und die Menschen haben ganz unterschiedliche Ansichten darüber, was aktuell in der Welt passiert. Für mich soll diese Community ein sicherer Ort für alle sein. Ich möchte nicht, dass sich die Leute in den Kommentaren gegenseitig angreifen. Darum geht es nicht. Gleichzeitig läuft momentan vieles aus dem Ruder und ich finde, dass Künstler die Verantwortung haben, ihre Stimme zu erheben, wenn sie es können. Deshalb habe ich versucht, diese Wut und Unsicherheit in den Song einfließen zu lassen.“

Mazare, dieses Mal übernimmst du selbst einen Rap-Part. Wie groß war die Herausforderung, vom „reinen“ Produzenten selbst Teil der Geschichte zu werden?

Mazare: „Das ist eine großartige Frage. Es war tatsächlich eine große Herausforderung. Meine Muttersprache ist Italienisch und ich rappe auf Englisch. Trotzdem wollte ich das schon lange ausprobieren. Gerade wegen des Themas und der Botschaft hatte ich das Gefühl, dass dieser Song genau der richtige Moment dafür ist. Es hat unglaublich viel Spaß gemacht und ich habe riesigen Respekt vor allen, die das scheinbar mühelos beherrschen.“

EVILLE bringen eine enorme Live-Energie in den Song. Wie kam diese Zusammenarbeit zustande und warum waren sie für „King For A Day“ die perfekte Wahl?

Mazare: „Ich halte ständig Ausschau nach spannenden Künstlern und Bands. Zuerst als Musikfan und gleichzeitig auch als jemand, der nach Talenten für zukünftige Projekte sucht. Als ich EVILLE entdeckt habe, war ich sofort von ihrer rohen Energie, ihrem cleveren Songwriting und dem spannenden Kontrast zwischen ihrer Ästhetik und ihrem brutalen Sound begeistert. Sie waren meine erste Wahl für diesen Song und sie haben absolut abgeliefert. Ich könnte nicht zufriedener sein.“

Der Song wechselt ständig zwischen Kontrolle und völliger Eskalation. Wie schwierig ist es bei so vielen unterschiedlichen Einflüssen, einen roten Faden zu behalten?

Mazare: „Überraschenderweise war das gar nicht schwierig. Ich höre seit Jahren sehr unterschiedliche Musikrichtungen. Dadurch hat sich mein Songwriting ganz natürlich von den eher klassischen EDM-Strukturen hin zu komplexeren Arrangements entwickelt, wie man sie heute oft im modernen Pop oder Metal hört. Ich habe diese Strukturen einfach übernommen und sie auf meine elektronische Musik übertragen.“

Deine Musik verbindet Metalcore, elektronische Musik, Breakbeats und moderne Pop-Elemente. Sind Genregrenzen heute überhaupt noch relevant?

Mazare: „Ich würde nicht sagen, dass sie bedeutungslos geworden sind. Aber sie verschwimmen immer stärker und ich halte das für eine sehr positive Entwicklung. Das Publikum ist heute viel offener für Experimente. Dadurch haben wir Künstler deutlich mehr Freiheiten. Bands wie Bring Me The Horizon oder Sleep Token haben gezeigt, dass man eingängig und zugänglich klingen kann, ohne seine Härte oder seine Identität zu verlieren.“

Das offizielle Musikvideo setzt stark auf VHS-Optik und düstere Bildwelten. Wie wichtig ist der visuelle Aspekt eurer Veröffentlichungen inzwischen geworden?

Mazare: „Vor einigen Jahren habe ich angefangen, mich intensiv mit Grafikdesign und Filmproduktion zu beschäftigen. Ich verbringe viel Zeit mit Artbooks von Filmen und Behind-the-Scenes-Material, um möglichst viel über diese Welt zu lernen. Außerdem arbeite ich mit einem unglaublich kreativen Team zusammen. Uns verbindet dieselbe Leidenschaft für Musik und Kunst. Deshalb war es für uns eine ganz natürliche Entwicklung, den visuellen Teil unserer Projekte immer wichtiger werden zu lassen. Mittlerweile bauen wir sogar eigene Requisiten. Das macht unglaublich viel Spaß.“

Mazare wird oft für seinen vielseitigen Sound gelobt. Gibt es trotzdem musikalische Grenzen, die du bewusst nicht überschreiten möchtest?

Mazare: „Ganz ehrlich? Nein. Vielleicht findet ihr mich in ein paar Jahren sogar in einer Latin-Playlist. Wer weiß? Haha.“

Wenn du deine aktuelle Musik mit früheren Veröffentlichungen vergleichst, wie hat sich dein kreativer Ansatz verändert? Fühlst du dich heute mutiger als noch vor einigen Jahren?

Mazare: „Ich glaube, der Musikgeschmack entwickelt sich bei jedem Menschen weiter. Für Musiker und Produzenten passiert es fast automatisch, dass diese neuen Einflüsse irgendwann in der eigenen Musik auftauchen. Mit der Zeit verliert man die Angst davor, neue Dinge auszuprobieren. Gleichzeitig interessiert einen die Meinung der Kritiker immer weniger. Genau dadurch entwickelt sich der eigene Sound weiter. Plötzlich öffnen sich viele neue Türen und man muss nur noch entscheiden, welche sich richtig anfühlen. So war es zumindest bei mir.“

Können sich eure Fans nach „King For A Day“ auf weitere Kollaborationen, Festivalauftritte oder vielleicht sogar Tourneen freuen?

Mazare: „Definitiv. Die nächsten Monate werden unglaublich vollgepackt. Es lohnt sich also, dranzubleiben. Vielen Dank für dieses großartige Interview. Es hat wirklich viel Spaß gemacht.“
