THE FUNERAL PORTRAIT stimmen ihre Fans mit der neuen SOUNDS FROM BEYOND THE ABYSS (VOL.1) EP, die heute über Better Noise Music erscheint, auf die Halloween-Saison ein. Die EP enthält vier okkultistisch angehauchte Tracks, die die starke Mischung der Band aus modernen Rock-Hymnen mit Emo und Pop-Punk-Theatralik widerspiegeln. Zwei der vier Tracks sind Coverversionen großer Klassiker von Künstlern, die THE FUNERAL PORTRAITs Sound inspiriert haben: Radioheads „Creep“ (das im vergangenen August in Zusammenarbeit mit der Hot Topic Foundation veröffentlicht wurde, um gemeinnützige Musik-, Kunst-, LGBTQ+- und psychische Gesundheitsorganisationen für Jugendliche und Teenager zu unterstützen) und Tears For Fears‚ „Mad World“.
“’Sounds From Beyond The Abyss (Volume 1)’ was designed to be a fun departure, something to hold over fans while we finish up the steps towards our full record release,” teilt Sänger LEE JENNINGS. “Within the lore of our band; it represents secret tracks, hidden away to be discovered by some unlucky Samaritan. Occult sounds meant to hypnotize the listener with music from an alternate reality. Which is to explain the case of covers & alternate versions of original songs. A ‘what if?’ scenario for our fans and ourselves.”
“Anyone who has met the band for more than 45 seconds can tell that we’re all big Donnie Darko fans, so when the question of a new cover came up, ‘Mad World’ was an obvious answer,” so JENNINGS. “Drawing more from the Gary Jules rendition than the Tears For Fears original, this cover of ours is all about the mood and vibe. Finding the balance between capturing the essence of The Funeral Portrait alongside the Samhain spirit for Halloween was the tightrope we had to walk and we’re very happy with the outcome.”
THE FUNERAL PORTRAIT, bestehend aus LEE JENNINGS (Gesang), CODY WEISSINGER (Gitarre), CALEB FREIHAUT (Gitarre/Hilfsinstrumente), ROBERT WESTON (Bass) und HOMER UMBANHOWER (Schlagzeug), sind noch bis zum 27. Oktober mit Icon For Hire, Conquer Divide und Concrete Castles auf der „Emo Dreams„-Tour durch die USA und Kanada unterwegs. Danach geht es nach Detroit, MI, um die Devil’s Night (30. Oktober) mit einer speziellen Show in der Saint Andrews Hall mit Twiztid zu feiern.
