“Digressions #3 – In Dresden” von John Blek & The Broken Strings ist eine 6-Track EP, die im Sommer 2022 entstanden ist, als der irische Songwriter als ‚Musician in Residence‘ des Festivals Palais Sommer unterstützt durch die Kulturstiftung des Freistaates Sachsen einige Wochen in Dresden verbrachte, neues Material schrieb um es direkt im Anschluss in den glanzvollen Castle Studios in Röhrsdorf/Sachsen mit zwei deutschen Musikern zu arrangieren und aufzunehmen. Die enthaltenen Lieder sind von einer wundervollen, spontanen Energie und Leichtigkeit geprägt und dokumentieren die täglichen und nächtlichen Schwingungen der Stadt und die zahllosen Geister ihrer Vergangenheit. Mit dabei waren die beiden sächsischen Musiker Filip Sommer an Bratsche und Moritz Brümmer am Cello. Die Kollaboration war so fruchtbar, dass in nur wenigen Tagen Material für ein ganzes Album entstand, aus dem nun die sechs schönsten Songs in EP-Form erscheinen. Die Formation wird im Februar/März 2024 damit auch auf Tour gehen.

So beschreibt John Blek das Projekt:
“It was an insanely hot German Summer, too hot for a pale Irish man like myself. I had tasked myself with the job of writing a suite of songs that would be my impressions of Dresden. It was a very fruitful experience. ‘The City Sleeps’ is night time music, a reflection on the active but relaxed Dresden Neustadt life after dark. It’s a part of the city I love and has always felt like a second home. ‘Ringing The Bells’ recalls the sounds of the city, sitting in a square in the shade of a church on a summer’s day with the air filled with the smoke of a raging forest fire just over the border in the Czech Republic. I hope that Dresden’s beauty sits comfortably beside its history on this record and I am excited to share the whole EP with everyone.”
